In 2008, the Rockford Marathon returned to this proud Illinois city. In 2009, it will be back bigger and better than ever on Sunday, May 17!

The 2008 marathon—the first held in Rockford in more than two decades—drew over1,200 athletes who participated in both full (26.2 mile) and half (13.1 mile) marathons on a course route along the scenic Rock River.  More than 3,000 spectators lined the streets to cheer runners from across the Midwest. They also enjoyed a community expo near the start/finish line in downtown Rockford. 

With the widespread collective support of public officials and local civic organizations as well as the Rockford Road Runners, the 2009 Rockford Marathon promises to build on its 2008 success. The marathon is USATF (USA Track & Field)-certified. Back again as the marathon's producer will be Special Events Management—the largest producer of special events in the Midwest including runs/walks and art/street festivals.
